Texting payment links turns on with the AI receptionist. We connect Square payment links now; until that is switched on for your line, the receptionist takes a message instead.
Setup steps
- Choose Connect. A short guided-setup form opens, and our team takes it from there.
- On a short call, someone with your Square login signs in to approve the connection. We never see the password.
- Tell us what callers pay for and which Square location takes the payments.
- We text a test link to your phone, check it shows in Square, and confirm on your ticket.
Permissions we ask for, and why
- Create payment links (PAYMENTS_WRITE, ORDERS_WRITE): Square requires these to create a payment link. We use them only to make the secure Square link we text to the caller. We never see card numbers and never charge a card.
- Read your business profile and locations (MERCHANT_PROFILE_READ): So payments go to the Square location you pick.
What the AI receptionist will do
- Will read the amount back and text the Square payment link only after the caller says yes.
- Will never ask for, repeat or write down a card number. Square hosts the payment page.
- Will take a message instead whenever Square doesn't confirm the link.
What it can't do, and limits
- Guided setup: our team connects it with you and tests it on your account before callers rely on it.
- Payment links are sent by text, so the Texting add-on and carrier registration (usually 1 to 2 weeks) come first.
- Payments show in your Square dashboard as usual. Square's own fees apply.
- For phone orders into your Square point of sale, the Square integration sends the payment link with the order.
The AI says something is booked or ordered only when Square payment links confirms it. If Square payment links doesn't answer in time, the AI takes a message instead and tells the caller someone will follow up.
Troubleshooting
Is this the same as the Square integration?
It uses the same Square sign-in. The Square integration covers orders and appointments; this one is for payment links on their own, such as deposits and balances.
Do I need the Texting add-on?
Yes. The link goes to the caller by text.
Does TimberSwitch ever see card numbers?
No. The caller pays on Square's page.
Disconnecting, and the data we keep
An owner or admin can disconnect at any time from Phone, then Connectors, in the app. Disconnecting stops TimberSwitch using Square payment links straight away.
- An encrypted Square access token and refresh token, and the location you chose.
- A log of each payment link: time, amount, Square link id and a masked caller number.
- Disconnecting removes our tokens straight away.
Still stuck?
Get help: it opens an Integration support ticket. Include the time of the call and what you expected to happen.
