Texting payment links turns on with the AI receptionist. We connect Stripe payment links now; until that is switched on for your line, the receptionist takes a message instead.
Setup steps
- Choose Connect. A short guided-setup form opens, and our team takes it from there.
- In Stripe, create a restricted key with write access to payment links, products and prices, then paste it into the secure key form on the Connectors page in the app.
- Tell us what callers pay for (deposits, orders, balances) and where the amounts come from.
- We text a test link to your phone, check it shows in Stripe, and confirm on your ticket.
Sending us your API key. Never email it or paste it in a ticket. A workspace owner or admin pastes it into the secure key form on the Connectors page in the app (choose Paste your API key next to Stripe payment links). It is stored encrypted and we only ever show its last 4 characters.
Permissions we ask for, and why
- A Stripe restricted key that can create payment links, products and prices: So we can create a Stripe-hosted payment link for the amount the caller agreed. The key can't see card numbers, issue refunds or move money out of your account.
What the AI receptionist will do
- Will read the amount back and text the payment link only after the caller says yes.
- Will never ask for, repeat or write down a card number. Stripe hosts the payment page.
- Will tell the caller the link came from your business, and take a message if Stripe doesn't confirm the link.
What it can't do, and limits
- Guided setup: our team connects it with you and tests it on your account before callers rely on it.
- Payment links are sent by text, so the Texting add-on and carrier registration (usually 1 to 2 weeks) come first.
- You see payments in your Stripe dashboard as usual. Stripe's own fees apply.
- The amount comes from your price list or the order, never from a number the caller makes up.
The AI says something is booked or ordered only when Stripe payment links confirms it. If Stripe payment links doesn't answer in time, the AI takes a message instead and tells the caller someone will follow up.
Troubleshooting
Does TimberSwitch ever see card numbers?
No. The caller pays on Stripe's page from the link we text them.
Do I need the Texting add-on?
Yes. The link goes to the caller by text.
Can I take a different amount each time?
Yes, as long as the amount comes from your own price list or order, which we set up with you.
Disconnecting, and the data we keep
An owner or admin can disconnect at any time from Phone, then Connectors, in the app. Disconnecting stops TimberSwitch using Stripe payment links straight away.
- Your restricted Stripe key, encrypted. We only ever show its last 4 characters.
- A log of each payment link: time, amount, Stripe link id and a masked caller number.
- Deleting the key or disconnecting stops new links straight away.
Still stuck?
Get help: it opens an Integration support ticket. Include the time of the call and what you expected to happen.
