Workiz: setup and support

Guided setup · API key · last checked October 3, 2026

Connect Get help

Guided setup. Our team connects it with you, usually within 1-2 business days. Connect opens a short form: what you want it to do, the best time to reach you, and who your Workiz admin is. We schedule the setup with you, test it on your account, and then turn it on for callers.

Saving messages to Workiz turns on with the AI receptionist. We connect Workiz now; until that is switched on for your line, the receptionist takes a message instead.

Setup steps

  1. Choose Connect. A short guided-setup form opens, and our team takes it from there.
  2. Turn on the Developer API in Workiz's Feature Center and create a key with lead and client permissions.
  3. An owner or admin pastes it into the secure key form on the Connectors page in the app. Never by email.
  4. We test with you and confirm on your ticket.

Sending us your API key. Never email it or paste it in a ticket. A workspace owner or admin pastes it into the secure key form on the Connectors page in the app (choose Paste your API key next to Workiz). It is stored encrypted and we only ever show its last 4 characters.

Permissions we ask for, and why

  • Read clients: So the AI recognises a returning customer.
  • Create leads: So a caller's job request lands in Workiz with the details filled in.

What the AI receptionist will do

  • Will look the caller up by phone.
  • Will capture the job type, address and callback number and read them back.
  • Will create a lead in Workiz with the call summary.

What it can't do, and limits

  • Guided setup: our team connects it with you and tests it on your account before callers rely on it.
  • Workiz turns on API access as a Developer API add-on, reported to need its top plan.
  • The AI creates leads; it does not schedule or price jobs.

The AI says something is booked or ordered only when Workiz confirms it. If Workiz doesn't answer in time, the AI takes a message instead and tells the caller someone will follow up.

Troubleshooting

Which permissions should the key have?

Read clients and create leads are enough.

Can the AI dispatch a tech?

No. It creates the lead; your team dispatches.

Disconnecting, and the data we keep

An owner or admin can disconnect at any time from Phone, then Connectors, in the app. Disconnecting stops TimberSwitch using Workiz straight away.

  • An encrypted copy of your key. We only show its last 4 characters.
  • A log of each lead: time, Workiz id and a masked caller number.
  • Deleting the key removes it straight away.

Still stuck?

Get help: it opens an Integration support ticket. Include the time of the call and what you expected to happen.
